Discussion on ‘‘Beginners Guide to CW Mode’’
On Saturday 21/9/2013 an interesting 2 hour discussion took place on the India DX Net. The Net was as usual very well run by net controller Basu VU2NSB. The discussion was conducted between stations - Denver 4S7DA & Eric 44HS852, with many listeners tuned to the frequency. For the benefit of new CW users we have summarised the interesting points discussed. 1. Listen – Listen - Listen. 2. Try to keep your QSO’s reasonably short. 3. Do not call CQ CQ in the middle of a QSO. 4. At the end of your message use one of the following – K (Please transmit) - GA (Go ahead) – Over – Over to you – The station you are in QSO with knows he is now clear to transmit. 5. At the end of your transmission use one of the following – 73 – SK – CU AGN – BYE – EE. The station you have been in QSO with now knows you have completed your transmission. 6. Do not transmit on beacon frequencies (30m – 10.105 kHz 7. Doubling in CW mode is annoying. If you find yourself doubling you can press PTT to stop your transmission. 8. Speed – Set your speed at a comfortable 12/18wpm. Speed in excess of 20 wpm may be difficult to read. 9. In CW mode, to see who else is on frequency do the following. Press DSB – Press F12 X 2 – Go back to CW mode to transmit. 10. Programmable CW Keys – To use this function do the following. Press Settings – Scroll down to Programmable CW Keys – Next to F1 you can type your normal call message (CQ CQ CQ DE 44HS852 South Africa AR). Now each time you make a CQ call all you need to do is press the F1 button, your call will appear in the chat box – press enter to transmit. 11. AR - This means Standing By - Use this when calling CQ K - Use this when handing over as a QSO starts. KN - This means handing over to a specific station – use during overs in a QSO. 12. Learn Morse Code - For those interested there are some great learning aids. Google the following sites – learnmorsecode.com – G4FON Koch Trainer – see 17 below. 13. Learn to use the Basic CW Abbreviations Google has many sites to visit in this regard. 14. Use CW at the lower end of 30m band 10.101 to 10.130 KHz. Digital users tend to use the upper end of the band so you will not interfere with their transmissions. 15. Decoders – some users of ‘’Android Morse Code Reader’’ have had problems with the software stopping after 30 seconds. To rectify this problem uninstall the software and download it again, you may have certain corrupt files in the download process. Other interesting decoders are – FLDIGI and CWGET – both work well. 16. Hamsphere 4.0 will have a new CW Module that will include Decoder/Encoder/Keyer, you will all need to get in as much practice as possible before the launch. 17. A new CW Award is soon going to be available for you to work towards. 18. CW Practice/Training is available on Server 8, 160m on 1.810 at 7.5wpm – 1.815 at 13 wpm and 1.820 at 10 wpm. 19. Basic setup instructions were again discussed. | Ruego si alguien sabe como puedo conectar el manipulador de CW en el PC por supuesto con el programa HamSpare3. Yo soy EA pero no puedo colocar la antena así que me encantaría poder hacer CW manual para que no se me olvide. Mi antiguo indicativo era EA2BSX ahora estoy probando esté programa con indicativo 30HS4180. Os agradecería cualquier ayuda que me pueda reunir con mi afición a la telegrafía hecha a manipulador. Buenos días
La transmisión de CW en HS3 con una llave es bastante difícil y necesita el uso de software externo y un generador de tonos. Hay varios mensajes que se pueden leer en el foro de CW, sin embargo estos están todos en Inglés deberia tener un amigo para ayudarle a traducir al español. Por favor, siéntase libre de leer todos los mensajes de CW y usted puede encontrar algo de interés para usted. Con el HS4 de todo modo se va a introducir un nuevo módulo en el futuro que le permitirá conectar una llave directamente a tu ordenador a través de un puerto USB y usted será capaz de transmitir cw en su tiempo libre. Esto todavía podría ser solo entre unos meses de distancia, así que por favor sea paciente. Gracias por su interés mostrado. Eric 44HS852 73 |

Quedo informado que en breve con el nuevo HamSphere4 y con un puerto USB y la LLAVE podre hacer telegrafía manual.
