Logged on HS 4.0 using the vertical, 3L 40 meter yagi and the 9L Optibeam for two days, nothing heard on any band.
I was told to uninstall and reinstall. Did that with same result.
Using laptop Windows 10.
About to give up.
Help?

Hi Russ,

My name is Kelly with the call sign SM7NHC.
I will try to explain a bit about propagation.

First off, there is one thing you should check. That is the Live DX Cluster. It will show current traffic on the system.

https://hs40.hamsphere.com/cluster.php

Secondly you need to check whether there is propagation to the targets over the entire world.
I have here attached two pictures from the propagation prediction system VOACAP which can be found on https://voacap.com/hf

In this first picture you will see the propagation for 24 hours from your QTH to Europe. Europe is wide open for example on 20m between 15.00-23.00 UTC. Whereas 40m has a window between 0200-0500 UTC. You need to be a real night owl to work Europe on 40m.

As you can see there are certain times and certain bands that you can operate on to be able to reach station in Europe.

In this second image I will show you the propagation windows for the east coast of United States.

As you can see there is significant difference in propagation between continents.

Please use the VOACAP tool, it will give you a lot of insight into HF propagation.

https://voacap.com/hf

Good DX!

I have been licensed for 64 years so I know all about propogation.
No sigs on BC band either. I think that alone means something other than bad conditions.

Hi again,

You can definitely not use the BC band as a reference. The BC band of HamSphere is using 6.2 MHz which is a particulary difficult band for long distance. The BC band (48m) is mainly for 0-800km coverage. Outside that region most signals die out, especially when sun spots are high.

Again, I suggest that you use the VOACAP website for appropriate predictions. During 24 hours (11 Aug 2022) a total of 347 stations have been active on HamSphere 4.0 and 1048 logged QSOs were noted. So it is practically impossible for you to miss all those stations. I will try your rig out and see what happens.

It seems that you are not listening good enough.

Just watch this video.

I was logged on with your transceiver from your QTH and picked up these US stations fine:

https://hs40.hamsphere.com/images/6455.mp4

Again, please use the cluster, it will help you.

Also there are several US NETS that you can join in to:

HamSphere North America Rag Chew Net:

The HamSphere North America Rag Chew Net the changes that the Net has made has proven beneficial to the net from the Net now meeting on Wednesdays and Fridays at 01:00 UTC and employing our new call sign NET/NARC.
NET/NARC – Net North American Rag Chew. Currently our Net Controllers are: VE3OHS – Wayne, VA7FT – Tim, W7CPT – Jim, 2HS2359 – Bob, and M6INJ – Pete. Also, 2HS1189 is our hard-working Net Logger.
We are currently operating on 70CM (434.5) only for the period of March through November, in the fall we will revert back to Check in on 40 Meters and Discussion or round table on 70CM.

HamSphere 80 meter award net

The HamSphere 80 meter award net meets 1 time during the week on 3.750 at 0100 UTC Mondays. The primary goal of the net is to bring radio operators and states together to achieve their 80 meter award.

And a suggestion, get the waterfall plug-in. It will show you the tiniest signal. You just have the bandscope now and it can be hard to see the signals in the noice.

Listening on 20 -all sources say EU is good from western USA.
NOTHING BUT STATIC. CLUSTER HAS LOTS OF POSTS BUT ALL FROM "DXMON" NOTHING FROM REAL OPERATORS. MY EYES ARE BAD BUT EARS ARE FINE. I HEAR NOTHING AND LISTENING REAL HARD.
HOW CAN YOU USE MY SETUP, HEAR STATIONS BUT I CANNOT.
SOMETHING IS WRONG. IF YOU FIGURE IT OUT, SEND ME AN E-MAIL.
DONE FOR NOW. YOU GOT MY USD AND NO MORE UNTIL I GET SOME RESULTS. WD7JS OUT

Hi Russ,

I can use your setup because I am the founder of the HamSphere system.

DXMON means the Automatic Spotting. HamSphere 4.0 has a number of listening monitors that listens for signals so those are legit spots.
And the West coast of USA has always been a challenge for EU stations, I have been licensed 42 years since 1980 so I would know. West coast of US is NOT a walk in the park. You need a proper antenna, some propagation luck and perseverance if you live in the EU.

I have set you up with a proper waterfall display so that you can see the stations and just not static noise. Feel free to test it out before you give up completely.

Question, did you call CQ? If you call CQ at that time of day and point your antenna towards EU and inject full power you should get a response from the DXMON yourself.

Watch this video on how it sounds from my QTH on 40 meters during contests:

Also you can see WB7ECWs video on how the spot system on HamSphere works:

Hi again Russ,

I have edited your rig so that you now have the waterfall properly installed. I threw in a used 5-element yagi for 20m "on the house" so that you can try using that when beaming towards Europe.

Have a good day and good DX!

Kelly,
First off I am sincerely sorry for my prior comments. I have recently become legally blind and still trying to live alone. I lost it.
Thanks so much for the station add-ons which you graciously granted to me. You are a gentleman indeed.
From here perhaps I should look more toward AS, JA, VK/ZL, that direction.
If you have echolink I would like to chat. When I use the 2 meter band the system drops me out frequently.
Just getting up over here at 1500 so in about an hour I will give it a go
With a better mind-set

I purchased this add-on but it does not appear on the transceiver. How do I get it on board?

Hi Russ,

No worries. I know how frustrating it can be with new gadgets.

1. Instead of starting the Transceiver, start the Transceiver editor. That is the other button.
2. In the editor. The plugins show up to the left in the so called "respository". You simply double click on the item in the repository and it will pop up on the screen.
3. Now grab the top edge of the plugin and drag it into place on the transceiver.
4. Save the transceiver and start it.

I could have someone helping you with editing etc. I have many trusted admins on the system

Do not have echolink.
