HS2 and screen reader accessibility
2009-12-15 20:36
Hello,

this is for all blind and visually impaired folks out there, if any. I tested the new HamSphere 2.0 and wasn't able to login or read any of the transceiver controls. I'm using Hal version 7.03, Jaws 10 and NVDA as screen readers under windows XP, but none of them worked for HS2. I also have the latest java runtime as well as the Java accessibility bridge installed.
HamSphere 1.0 had basic accessibility. Some controls were usable while others such as band selector were not.
Kelly and me were talking about this issues via mail and he, from is point of view, doesn't know where to start making the software accessible to us. So my idea is to look for other blind HamSphere users who could help in testing the accessibility with different screen readers and on different operating systems. Maybe the software already is accessible and I'm just doing something wrong? So if anyone is able to give feedback please let me know.

Regards,
Steffen

Hello Steffen
Welcome to Hamsphere.
I don't know a heck of a lot about accessibility to various programs such as Hamsphere but I will do what I can to find out what options are out there. I volunteer with HandiHam and will ask some of those folks about this situation.
Stay tuned....

Hi! Have exactly the same problem with Windows XP and Jaws 10.0 with both braille and speech. The problem starts with the login screen already. I will be trying to use the Snowman's Hotspot Clicker for Jaws to see if things can be improved. But you cannot even see the login button with Jaws 10.0. Stefan it seems that we are the only two blind persons using hamsphere?
There are quite a few keyboard short cut keys for which I am very greatful.
