Microphone Problem

I have been told that when I TX it sounds like a jack hammer is working at the same time.
I have tried both mic sockets on the PC, one built in plus an extra one, but get the same problem with both.
The mic is not an expensive one, could this be a problem in it's self?
Any ideas please?

Hi Pete,

Which operating system are you running? Try turning your systems main volume control down a bit and then go to the 6 meter band and goto frequency 50.123.45 and listen for yourself to see if it has helped. 50.123.45 is the freq that Kelly set up as a way to be able to hear yourself so you can adjust your levels. Give it a shot.

Jeremy,
After listening to it myself it sounds like a truck engine running over my shoulder.
I'll have a better look tomorrow.
Thanks for your helpful reply.
System is Windows XP

These could both be due to your mic gain being too high at the soundcard settings.

The jack hammer effect sounds like your breath hitting the mic element and the truck is probably the fans on the computer and other devices in the room.

Try turning down the gain on your mic in the sound settings and moving away from the mic a little when speaking, you may need to move the mic away from the computer as well.. then test again on 50.12345.

Even with the mic lead at full stretch away from the PC, and with no speech the noise is still there, also with the mike gain turned down so it picks up no noise from the room noise is still there.
Have tried MSM & Yahoo messenger with the same results!!:(
Think it's time for a new PC.
