Sending QSL cards on IOS or Android

Hi,

I have been on Hamsphere 3.0 for about a month and I have to say, I love it.

The biggest problem with Hamsphere is the lack of QSL Card support on mobile devices. You get to speak to many interesting stations but are unable to swap QSL Cards with them as they are using tablets or smart phones to connect to Hamsphere.

A smart phone is the easiest and most inexpensive way to get on HS as a computer system can be out of the financial reach of many of the users who have joined recently, especially stations who fall in to the DX-User category.

I wonder how difficult it would be to add the ability to send QSL Cards from the received QSL Cards screen on the HS web site. You can delete QSL Cards from there so it wouldn't take too much to add a reply button. This would allow mobile users to use the web browser on their device to send or reply to QSL Cards.

The other option I can think of is allowing the HS log book to receive QSL Cards by email attachment. A user could send simple QSO information to a central email address. They would only need to include the Station call signs, names, time and date to confirm a QSO, this could then be overlaid on a pre-formatted QSL Card so that everyone would receive the same card from a portable contact BUT it would mean that the QSO could be verified easily.

Either of these options seems to me to be the obvious solution to the problem. Simple to use, not massively technical to implement on to the HS system but then opens up the world of QSL Cards to everyone.

Please add your ideas to this discussion, you never know, Kelly may read it and feel inspired to leave HS4 alone for a day and fix this obvious flaw in the Virtual Radio experience.

73 and thanks for reading

Hi Craig,

thats a big problem, yes. And also for the other station, who don't get a confirmation of this QSO, because the ham-friend is using a smartphone.

But there is a little chance: If you write all contacts, you can create manually entries in your logbook later on at home.
And with this entries it's possible to send QSL-Cards as well.
The problem is, not all Mobile-Stations are doing so and not all have a PC at home....

I also have a lot of not confirmed QSOs from other stations in my Logbook. You can't do anything against it. Only one card in the single direction is not enough for a complete QSO.

Yes it is a problem Jorg,

There was a new station calling today from the Marshal Islands and everyone was trying to get through to him but an admin had to call the frequency to tell them that he was on a mobile device. Suddenly the frequency went totally quiet as no-one wanted to talk to him because he couldn't QSL.

It would have been much better if we could send a QSL Card and he could go to his received QSL Cards page on his web browser and reply from there.

Using an Android or IOS device is only any good if you are talking to people you already know. It's pointless using one for DXing or if you don't have a computer to use later. Not everyone does.

I hope Kelly reads this, it would make Hamsphere absolutely perfect to go out walking and do some DXing on my phone and send QSL Cards while I'm out.

I'm new here and wouldn't like to send QSL card's but being that I'm on my andriod cellphone I can't. I have a solution that will fix the problem.
Put in a problem that will automatically send out a QSL card after each qso is finished. It can record time/date/location/operator's callsign. The sender to the receiver. This can be done on ios/andriod/windows/mac, etc. This will be alot easier and free up everyone giving them more time to enjoy Hamsphere.

Put in a program that will automatically send out a QSL card after each qso is finished. The sender/receiver location/time/date/ etc. This will free up problems operator's are having especially when do contest.
