Hi
I am a newbie in the world of HAM Ops.

I am consistently getting this message from my hamsphere software:
"Server was stopped for maintenance. You may check back later!"

and hamsphere automatically disconnects.. and i have to re login every time.

Is this normal for a free/trial account? or is the limitation?

Please help :(

Hi

The HamSphere system requires a very reliable TCP/IP connection.
I have traced your IP and getting very long response times.

I suggest that you download the PingPlotter Program and trace the HamSphere servers at 83.168.206.42 which is the IP number.

When you start the Ping Plotter program, locate the field "Address to trace" and put 83.168.206.42 there. Then click Trace.
You will now see the ping times to the different routers along the way to the server.
Look for high Packet Loss figures, that is the PL column. If you get high Packet Lost numbers, TCP/IP packets are lost on the way to Sweden (Where the servers are). If too many packets are lost, the system will disconnect you automatically. That is why you get this error.

If you can send me the "trace" via email I could look at it and tell you where it fails.

heres the trace in text:

I am getting overall 12% PL ..I guess :( well that was over a "unlimited" times trace check done using pingplotter demo software.

Oh yes, just like I suspected, ping times are really long. Way over a second.
We do not recommend running the system over 500 ms in ping. If you have over 1000ms it will definately stop.

What puzzles me is that you have a starting fee of 390 ms. Are you using someone's WIFI connection? It doesn't look like a fixed connection ie ADSL to me.

I am sorry about this, but I would start looking for the reason why the first hop is almost 400ms away.

well I am on my University's wifi connection :D

we have a dedicated lease line of 6mbps but we don't actually get it all during peak hours like this.

Anyways.. thanks again for helping me out

PS: one last query.. how can i broadcast using hamsphere ..? is it possible using my current free account?

by broadcast I meant.. to really broadcast as if operating a ham radio. (and not the chat broadcast feature)
