Hello Andre (153HS460),

The Samui island is part of the Malay Peninsula East group.

Special callsign will be IOHS/AS101 - SAMUI ISLAND - THAILAND

You will need Internet access, a GPS device, and a Smarthphone or Tablet (Android or IOS) able to run Veetle App.

What is the date that Andre will be on the Samui island ?

Hello Andre,

To certify the location of the expedition, the person must have a GPS and also a Smartphone or a Tablet that can run the Veetle app.
Otherwise it is not possible to validate.

Try to find a friend that has these objects, we are talking about common technology in current days...

No, no, no - I strongly disagree! HamSphere operators should not try to simulate the culture of amateur radio too strictly. On HamSphere we are not doing classical (wireless) AR (= Amateur Radio) but ARoIP (= Amateur Radio over Internet Protocol). This gives permission to handle several aspects in a far convenient way, for example DXpeditions or special activities.

I suggest to all HamSphere operators working "off-shack":

If you are working from your own country use your common call sign, announce your DXpedition/special activity from time to time on the QRG and note it by using red colour in your QSL (Comment line): pQTH: Hoher Dachstein, 2.995 m ASL.

If you are working from abroad ask the HamSphere support to change your common call sign to an appropriate call sign (OE5AKM > DL/OE5AKM), announce your DXpedition/special activity from time to time on the QRG and note it by using red colour in your QSL (Comment line): pQTH: Ham Radio, Friedrichshafen, DL.

I think in the case of HamSphere (ARoIP) you should really be at that summit or at Friedrichshafen but there is no need to prove that in such a complicated manner. If you betray, you chiefly betray yourself.

By the way, SOTA is working that simple way and it is working fine... So hw?

Dear Alfred,

Thank you for your post.

About "HamSphere Xpeditions Project", the location proof will be always necessary.

Can be done by live GPS image as I did in Culatra IOHS/EU145 or by HTML5 Geolocation as I did now with Samui IOHS/AS101.

One of the points that was agreed with Kelly is that nobody will have doubts about real location of Xpeditions after I give autorization to operator start work with IOHS - LOHS - COHS or SOHS callsign.

I want that when you call IOHS/AS101, knows that you are speaking with a station that are working from Koh Samui Island.

I don't want and I will not allow any kind of fakes in this project.

I hope that you can understand the last point. Because it's really important !

Dear Santos,

I respect your point of view and I think it might be appropriate for IOHS (= Islands on HamSphere). But for SOHS (= SOTA on HamSphere) and other more or less regional DXpeditions/activities? Not even the real SOTA programme requires location verification. So why here on HamSphere?

I think location verification makes things complicated and expels fun from the hobby.

My two cents: Asking the HamSphere support for an appropriate call sign and/or declaring to work from a certain place should be enough in most cases. Please think it over...

Dear Alfred,

Nowadays, almost everyone have a Smartphone or a Tablet, also a portable GPS like TomTom or Garmin, are very common.

Veetle is free and easy to setup, in last case, we can use HTML5 Geolocation tool to do a validation.

So, everyone that have interest to do a Xpedition via HamSphere are welcome and will have our complete support.

As I said before, there are enough "easy" technology to make proof of real location, and we want that Xpedition operators make use of it.

HamSphere Xpeditions will be the only ones that you and everyone can have 100% sure that the operator are transmitting from announced place.

In a near future, working Xpeditions will count to a new class of HamSphere Awards.

I hope that we can also have you running a Xpedition !

Dear Santos,

I think we should not tar all DXpeditions/special activities with the same brush: IOHS is not SOHS - there are enormous differences (global vs. local DXpeditions).

But inside HamSphere it´s your choice...
