Hi:
I was wondering if someone can help me with the transceiver? I have been tuning around and all I am getting is a station which sends 4 digit characters, arrl news, some foreign communication. I do not hear any QSO's whether by SSB or CW on 40 m. With all the members here, you would think that more hams would would be communicating. I have tried other bands as well and although there are some users, the sideband does not come in very clearly. It seems to splatter a lot. I do not have a microphone plugged in as of yet. Are the bands properly calibrated or do you have to recalibrate from time to time? I am using it as a trial run and do you have to pay membership to get all the features? I thought that I would get a good chance to see if this truly works well for my needs. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you very much. Regards, Mel |

Hello Mel K6RVD
Not really sure what is happening at your end my friend.......... I will try to help you out .............First plug in a microphone into the computer. Then re- log into the radio with Callsign And Pin# / Password (these are the same thing)....... When you log in you are defaulted to 40 meters........... 7.055 default start-up ............. here you should hear audio when a spike is showing in the band spectrum....................... Lets see if you get this far ...................... I will send you an email so we can go back and forth using that mode of communications ......... 73 Vic VE3JAR |

Hi Mel.
HamSphere never ceases to amaze me. Sometimes we have have over 100 users on a band and there is absolutely no communication at all, people just sit dormantly waiting for some action. All of a sudden bands are flourishing with activity. I have never understood this. One factor could be the time zone, but I doubt that. I think the best way to build up some activity is to call CQ and get some responses. Yes, there is splatter. The filters are 3.8 and 2.8 kHz wide, but still some bleeding from the mixers. HamSphere is a digital world of a real shortwave band and the system uses Mixers, Local oscillators, carrier suppression, double side band modulation etc. So if someone were to overmodulate the HamSphere transmitter there will be spurious splatter around the center frequency. 73 Kelly 5B4AIT |
