I just subscribed to Hamsphere, I have a Mac running OS X logged in but am unable to operate the transciever, no audio, none of the controls function ( band, frequency)
When I enter "ping" in the chat box I get a "server returned" response Also after entering " /devices" in the left side of the Transceiver (dialog box) I get the following message what do I enter for playback and recording devices /playback 0, then /record 0?? since they are the only devices listed? Available playback devices: 0:Java Sound Audio Engine Available recording devices: 0:Mac OS X,CoreAudio,Audio hardware 1: Current playback device: 0 Current recording device: 0 |

Hello Robert.
We have a trial before you buy. We strongly advice the users to try the software before they sign up for a subscription. I can see that you ordered the subscription 3 days ago and of course you will be issued a refund if it won't work in your Mac. But let us do some trouble shooting first: The Mac issue is an enigma. Some Macs works right out of the box and other produce serious problems. This is a Java oriented problem. It is a well known fact that the Java implementation on the Mac operating system is dodgy. If one start searching the net for similar error you will find lots. But in your case it doesn't seem to be the audio playing a part. You say "unable to operate the transciever, no audio, none of the controls function ( band, frequency)". This drew my attention. We need to pinpoint the problem: 1. Did it first work and all of sudden die for some reason (Considering you subscribed)? 2. After you log in, do you see the spikes on the BandScope? 3. Please copy the result of the login info printed in the Cluster/Chat box after you have logged in. I need to see how far in the login process it comes. 4. The Mac OSX firewall fpw? could be the culprit. Perheps the outbound port 8010 is blocked for outgoing traffic? Let me know a little bit more about this and I am sure we can fix it.- 73 Kelly Lindman 5B4AIT www.hamsphere.com |

Dr OM,
Thank you for your quick reply - I am using Mac book with version 10.4.11 Bob MM0BQV Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Which Mac are you using and which version of OSX? > > > WB2ICQ Wrote: > -------------------------------------------------- > ----- > > I just subscribed to Hamsphere, I have a Mac > > running OS X logged in but am unable to > operate > > the transciever, no audio, none of the > controls > > function ( band, frequency) > > > > When I enter "ping" in the chat box I get a > > "server returned" response > > > > > > > > Also after entering " /devices" in the left > > side of the Transceiver (dialog box) > > I get the following message what do I enter > for > > playback and recording devices /playback 0, > then > > /record 0?? > > since they are the only devices listed? > > > > Available playback devices: > > 0:Java Sound Audio Engine > > > > Available recording devices: > > 0:Mac OS X,CoreAudio,Audio hardware > > 1: > > > > Current playback device: 0 > > Current recording device: 0 |

Hi Robert.
Thanks for the reply. There is the problem right there. It is the sound driver. It is incapable of sampling 8 kHz audio "PCM_SIGNED 8000.0 Hz". There is a thread here somewhere in the forum covering something like this. Let me look it up. Here is one There must be a problem with the forum search. I tried to search for "OS X" or "OSX" and nothing came up. But I know there ism quite a few posts regarding OSX. I need to take a look at that. ANyway, as MM0BVQ says, we need to know what OS X you are running and that Mac type so we can find out what hardware it uses So if you knew the Mac typre, OS X version and Java version we could google it and see if others have the same problem in Java. Please advice. Kelly |

------------------------------------------------------- > I am using Macbook with version 10.4.11 Try updating your Java to the latest version for 10.4.11 which is release 9 (JRE 1.5.0_19) which is available here. As the documentation does state the the latest version of java is required you may need to update to 10.5.8 which provides 1.5.0_22 and 1.6.0_17. Dependant on the system spec you may also be able to upgrade to 10.6. I am using HS on a G5 running 10.5.8 and a Macbook Pro running 10.6.2 with no problems. I Wante some answers. I wish I could get some answers if only to leave. I want to know WHEN and HOW to hear human voices on this line. There is NOBODY on that DX Cluster who will talk to me, I am sure they will never talk to me. I really should not pay unless I get answers but they seem so vicious they dont have to please or give answers. I guess I thought I'd be a ham to get out of this social shitpit I live in offline but I cannot be a ham if no other ham will speak to me, are they a friendlu bunch? Surely even if you run this establishment non profit you can provide some answers | |

Dear M6MHA
Just like real shortwave HamSphere require patience. If you buy a shortwave rig and plug in an aerial and you start to call CQ you know that the time and the choice of bands are essential to even get a reply. The DX cluster is just one of the guidelines to obtain a QSO. The number of users on HamSphere also varies with the clock. Evenings (UTC time) are the best. And weekends of course. Please have a little patience and I am sure you will get a reply on your CQ's. Or just QSK another QSO to say hello. Kind regards Kelly Lindman 5B4AIT / SM7NHC HamSPhere |
