Hello Tony... I'm sorry you are disapointed and your opinion is respected. However, coming in everyone knew of the 2 day trial period. Actually, we had a QSO on 6 meters and I came away believing you were enjoying the software.
Best 73 and good luck.

Pricing is a tricky topic. Each user connected uses an (approximate) additional bandwidth of 1.5kb/s

Thats 129.6MB per day. I don't know what the bandwidth limit is on the server's provider, but even with 10 users online, thats 1.2GB of traffic a day.

Allowing a longer period for the demo, while it would increase interest in HamSphere, it would also eat up the bandwidth without contributing to the cost of the meal.

I think €26 ( €2.16 per month) isn't too much to ask for eating 47.3GB of traffic a year and covering the development costs in both time and effort, while meeting new people voice to voice (or sinewave to sinewave). Its a lot cheaper for those without the real equipment too. I could dine out once, by myself, for €26... Or I can subscribe to this and spend all year on it.

In comparison, World of Warcraft charges €180 (€14.99 per month), it goes down once a week for a few hours, and you don't get any real satisfaction or communication there!

Forgive the rant :)

Hi Matt.

Thanks for your post but the numbers are way way off.

Here are the system requirements and I calculate everything in kilobytes per second so there is no misunderstanding.

Each user uses average 6 kiloBytes per second each way = 6000 bytes per second including audio and control data.

That equals 6000 * 3600 = 21.6 MegaBytes per hour one way.
Tallying to a total of 21.6 * 24 = 518 Megabytes per day.

Say I have an average of 50 users on the system (Just a figure) then it would consume
518 * 50 = 25.9 GigaBytes per day * 2 (Up/Down traffic) = 52 GigaBytes per day.

Bottom line: 1.56 TeraByte per month!

You can look at some of the ISP prices for 1.5 TB / month. It is expensive!!!

Thanks
Kelly

My kb/s figure was measured by NetLimiter (which isn't all that accurate), but it did show 1.4K/s quite steadily for me.

Thanks for clearing that up!

Matt

I see, but I remind you that your netlimiter probably was showing 1.4KBytes per sec and your calculation seemed to be based on 1.4kbits/s.
1.4kBytes/sec = 11.2 kbit/sec

1.56 TeraByte per month + £26 per year....
I use a pay as you go Modem at this time .. this would end up a very expensive way to talk to stations..and many friends that I have made over the time..but hey,was nice being a part of it..

Hello again.

Very sorry, but I think you have misunderstood me. It is not you that will drain 1.56 TB, it is the server. You will still use that bandwidth that your netlimiter shows. Please, don't worry.

Kelly
