Dear Operators.
For some inexperienced users, pile-ups on HamSphere can be really intimidating, tedious and difficult. A pile-up is when many stations are calling for one rare DX-station for example. Training Pile-up operation will make operators more skilled in DX-ing. On the real shortwave band, the noise and doubling is extreme when there is a real PILE-UP. I would like to give you some idea what it sounds like. Watch this recorded Pile-Up with V31MW on 15 meter. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qUam0Y-hnnU Then you will get some perspective on how much doubling and QRM there is in a real pile-up :-) One method to avoid doubling is to run split frequency. Like listening for calls on a higher frequency. See this Pile Up with S9DX http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ooyXufdgXiI where he uses dual VFO to receive on a higher frequency. Good DX Kelly |
