Welcome to the June 2010 Newsletter. Lots of good stuff this month so read on... Latest news: * I would like to inform about the upcoming 4th of July contest. The contest will begin at 1000 hrs UTC(600 a.m. EDST) Friday July 3rd, 2010 and run until 0400hrs UTC(1200 a.m. EDST) Monday, July 5th,2010. More info here: http://www.hamsphere.com/read.php?7,2145 * There are currently operators from 182 countries represented on HamSphere and quite a few new DX Prefixes have been active. The past month we have seen some interesting DX activity on the system: Some of the seen stations: YN6ZMC NICARAGUA, V5/OH5D NAMIBIA, P29CM PAPUA NEW GUINEA, HH2EG HAITI, VP2EDJ ANGUILLA, V44KBP SAINT KITTS AND NEVIS, FG5XZ GUADELOUPE, 3B8GD MAURITIUS, T30RT KIRIBATI, 4S6DRS QUATAR, YI1QEA IRAQ. 52HS101 FAROE ISLANDS, 150HS107 BAHRAIN, 152HS102 MALDIVES, 128HS104 VIRGIN ISLANDS (BRITISH), 240HS102 MACAU, 136HS103 MARTINIQUE, 27HS107 ICELAND, 166HS101 NETHERLANDS ANTILLES And many more... * The HamSphere virtual shortwave model have been changed slightly to conform to the real bands and you may experience a small difference in propagations. Usually for the better. * The HamSphere iPhone application have been tested between two iPhone 32Gs phones over a 3G connection. The overall latency was reported to be between 100-200 ms. The transmitted audio quality was better than expected and many operators have commented on this. The application will be ready for commercial use later this summer. * The subscription rate is good and it secures the future of this system. At the time of writing the system has 1192 subscribers. * HamSphere is looking into a possible gateway solution for other systems on the market. Plans for an integration with a real shortwave band is also on the table. By using an SDR receiver it should be possible to sample 96 kHz from a real HamBand and relay that live on HamSphere, but it would need a location with high internet bandwidth. * HF Beacons have been added on a few bands to help you determine the actual propagation. Check 10 and 20 meters around the 20 kHz mark. * Finally I am looking for radio moderators. If you are a subscriber to the system, you are eligible to become a radio moderator who have the ability to moderate the system in an effective way. That's all for now.
